Dallas Hodges Park writing

Last Friday we went to Hodges Park with Harriet and learned  about water. Fist we did the clarity test.

Millie filled up the bottle with water and poured it in the tube and Charli looked at the magnet. Harriet pulled the magnet back until Charli couldn’t see the magnet any more.

When Charli could not see the magnet, she said, “Stop!” and Harriet checked the measurement. It was 82cm.

Ashton dropped the orange ball in the water. Morgan timed how long it took to get to Kobe.  It was about 24 seconds. We were learning about the water flow.

Then we got our baskets and nets.We used the nets and put them in the water then dragged it out into the basket.

We collected some creatures  then we put them into a specimen identification box. It had a chart on the lid to help us work out what each creature was. We found fresh water crayfish, mayflies, wooden cased caddis flies, and some freshwater snails.

Harriet helped us find out that the Otepapa stream is a healthy stream.

On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Thomsen came to visit from Northpower.

She came and told us about power.
If you get stranded in your car you don’t get electrocuted because the rubber tyres stop the electricity from getting through.

by Rohan

on Tuesday afternoon Mrs Thomsen came to
our school and taught pod 7 about  Northpower.
You never want to tip water on a
power line because you will get an electric
shock.
Mrs Thomsen showed her keynote
about power to pod 7.
There was a video about a substation
that got all on fire.If you crash into a power pole
and the power line comes off it  could cause
a big fire. And if you touch the ground and the
car you will get  electrocuted and die.

Mrs Thomsen's Visit from Northpower

On Thursday afternoon Mrs Thomsen came to teach us about electricity. She works at Northpower.

Electricity can kill you. Do not pour water on power plugs. Turn the plug off before getting toast out of the toaster. Do not plug too many plugs in one power point.

If you crash into a power pole, stay in the car or jump out. But do not hold on to the car and put your foot on the ground or you will get electrocuted.

If birds go on power lines they will not get electrocuted  because they are not on the ground.

If there is a broken plug, do not touch it or you will get electrocuted.
